How to make Syrups?

Simple Sugar Syrup


Simple syrup, or sugar syrup, is very easy to make and is used in many cocktails such as Jell-O Shots, Daiquiris and Hurricanes to add volume and sweetness. With this recipe you can make as small oras large a batch as you wish and store it in therefrigerator in a well sealed bottle indefinitely.

INGREDIENTS:

2 parts sugar
1 part water

PREPARATION:
Bring the water to a boil.
Dissolve the sugar into the boiling water.
Once the sugar is dissolved completely, remove thepan from the heat.
Allow to cool completely and bottle.



Sour Mix


Sweet and Sour Mix is a mixer made of lemon or lime juice and sugar syrup.
It is an important part of many cocktails. You may want to adjust the sugar/juice ratio to give the mix the right balance of sweetness and tartness.

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup sugar
2 cups water
2 cups lemon juice

PREPARATION:
Bring the water to a boil.
Dissolve the sugar into the boiling water.
 Once the sugar is dissolved completely add lemon juice and boil for another minute, remove the pan from the heat. Allow to cool completely and bottle.


Vanilla-Ginger Syrup

This is a great flavor-infused simple syrup that is featured in Endless Possibilities. This modifier can also be added to other cocktails that call for simple syrup like the Nutty Martini where the vanilla and ginger can enhance yet not ruin the base flavors of the drink. Thiswill store for up to a week when refrigerated.

INGREDIENTS:
250ml sugar
250ml water
1/4 cup fresh ginger
chopped 2 vanilla beans, split and scraped

PREPARATION:

Combine all ingredients into a sauce pan and bring to a boil for one minute.
Remove from the heat and let steep for 20 minutes.
Strain out vanilla bean pods and ginger and cool syrups.

Eucalyptus Simple Syrup


Use this refreshing eucalyptus simple syrup to create great, herbal cocktails like the Eucalyptus Martini. This recipe is courtesy of Humber to Marques of Oloroso in Edinburgh, Scotland. Marques put together a great analysis of Herbs & Spices in the Cocktails Mixology.

INGREDIENTS:

500ml water
500ml sugar
1/3 cup fresh eucalyptus

PREPARATION:
Mix sugar with water and bring to a boil. Simmer for 1 minute, add leaves and liquidize.
Put in a bowl and cover in cling film for 15 minutes,then refrigerate.
